About

Jacques Matombe's farm, established in 1993 at Intendance and later moved to Anse-Royale in 1995, is a testament to his passion for the art and science of agriculture. The farm focuses on cultivating the soil, growing crops, preparing plants for consumption, and distributing them to markets.

Local Products

Jacques Matombe's farm proudly produces a wide variety of local products, ranging from small chilies to pumpkins, eggplants, spring onions, ladyfingers, and more. The specific cropping systems employed on the farm depend on available resources, geographical and climatic conditions, government policies, and the economic and social context. Additionally, the philosophy and culture of the farmer influence the choice of farming methods.

Farming Practices

Recognizing the value of ecosystems and the need to balance environmental and livelihood considerations, Jacques Matombe's farm employs technological advancements to promote sustainability. The farm utilizes tools and resources that facilitate practices such as conservation tillage, which prevents land erosion, reduces water pollution, and enhances carbon sequestration. Other potential practices include conservation agriculture, agroforestry, improved grazing, avoided grassland conversion, and the use of biochar.

Local Product Distribution

Jacques Matombe's primary objective is to ensure the maximum distribution of local products to customers. This commitment became even more crucial during the pandemic when movement restrictions were in place. To facilitate accessibility, the farm operates five outlets strategically located across the island. Additionally, the newly launched SeyBusiness platform will collaborate primarily with the farm's outlet at Cascade. The farm delivers fruits and vegetables to various establishments, including households, hotels, orphanages, and small catering businesses.

Baskets Delivery Service

To cater to different needs, Jacques Matombe's farm offers a variety of basket types designed for varying family sizes. These baskets can be delivered directly to customers' doorsteps or offices. The farm also provides special occasion baskets, including those for birthdays. The Wonky Basket, priced at SCR 250, was introduced in October 2020 and contains only fresh local vegetables. The Premium Fruit Basket, priced at SCR 150, consists solely of fresh local fruits. For a combination of fruits and vegetables, customers can opt for the Presidential Basket, priced at SCR 500.

Jacques Matombe's farm has been a pillar of local agriculture, striving to provide essential products to the community. By embracing sustainable practices and adapting to changing circumstances, the farm continues to play a vital role in ensuring food security and promoting local produce.
