About

The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) was established in December 1977 with the primary goal of catering to the commuting needs of the people of Seychelles. As a parastatal organization in the Republic of Seychelles, the SPTC is mandated to provide public transportation services to the residents and visitors of the country.

Bus Operations: The Backbone of SPTC

The SPTC, often referred to by its acronym, operates primarily using buses as the chosen mode of transportation. With an extensive fleet of buses, the corporation plays a crucial role in facilitating the movement of people across the Seychelles islands. Currently, SPTC operates routes on the two main islands of Mahe and Praslin, as these islands have the necessary road infrastructure and population density to support a reliable bus service.

Geographical Layout of Seychelles and Bus Services

The Seychelles archipelago consists of 115 islands of varying sizes, which are categorized into two areas: the inner granitic islands and the outer coralline islands. The three largest islands—Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue—are the most densely populated, while the other islands have minimal or no permanent residents. Consequently, the SPTC focuses its bus services on Mahe and Praslin, where the majority of the population resides.

Advantages of Sole Provider Status and Service Diversification

As the sole provider of a country-wide bus fleet endorsed by the government, the SPTC has leveraged its position to capitalize on various advantages and expand its services. One of the key advantages is the ability to diversify its offerings beyond traditional bus transportation. While providing reliable and efficient bus services remains the core focus, the SPTC has explored additional avenues to enhance its services and meet the evolving needs of the public.

Our Services

Main Service: Integrated Public Bus Network

SPTC operates an integrated public bus network, providing convenient transportation options for residents and visitors on Mahe and Praslin islands. Key features of the service include:

  • Over 1600 bus journeys daily
  • Coverage of 106 bus routes on Mahe and Praslin
  • Four bus depots on Mahe and one on Praslin
  • Three bus terminals for easy access

Regional Bus Service Expansion

SPTC is expanding its services to include regional bus routes, catering to specific areas and communities, as part of its effort to enhance transportation options.

Driving School

SPTC's driving school offers professional training for individuals seeking to obtain or improve their driver's licenses. The school provides:

  • Theory and practical training for license classes 4 to 7
  • Refresher courses for drivers
  • Modules covering defensive driving, professional driver courses, hazard deception, and more

SPTC's driving school operates with flexible service hours to accommodate learners' schedules:

  • Open six days a week
  • Operating hours: 8 am to 5 pm
  • Appointments available outside of regular hours upon request

Catering to Advertising Needs: Mobile Advertising Service

SPTC offers unique advertising opportunities through its fleet of big blue buses. Take advantage of this mobile advertising service, which provides:

  • Exclusive advertising products
  • Increased sales and brand awareness
  • Access to a large daily commuter audience

Mechanical Services: Vehicle Repair and Maintenance

SPTC's Workshop Department provides reliable mechanical services for private motor vehicles, including:

  • Panel beating
  • Machining
  • Fuel injection service
  • Servicing and maintenance
  • Tyre repair and replacement
  • Brake testing
  • Emission testing
  • Suspension system checks

Since its establishment, the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) has played a vital role in meeting the commuting needs of the people of Seychelles. With its bus operations serving the islands of Mahe and Praslin, the SPTC ensures that residents and visitors have access to reliable transportation. As the sole provider of a country-wide bus fleet, the SPTC continues to explore innovative ways to diversify its services and meet the evolving demands of the public.
